what do I need to work on- reflecton

Some areas I need to work on include theses and significance. A thesis is extremely important in writing because it sums up the topic of the paper and describes the argument being made in the paper. Though when I write a thesis I always feel like the beginning of the year of eighth grade when a thesis was “I believe this because 1, 2, and 3” I just wish I sounded more mature when writing my thesis. I am also very bad about including significance in the story, or the why. I am always worried after reading my work people will wonder what the point was because I am not very good at including the significance. I think the problems I have is the depth and development of my thesis and that when I’m telling a story I always feel like the significance is obvious.

what are my strengths- relfection

My strengths as a writer include detail, word choice, and genre. I like to incorporate all of these to make a wood piece of writing. I enjoy find alternative word choice to add detail or make my writing more interesting to read. Poetry is a good way to incorporate extravagant word usage because it is usually brief but full of vivid imagery. Genre is important because a writer must know the formality of the text, the way it should be written to conform to the certain reader, and how the selected audience will read it. These traits were all learned early in the first semester; this was good timing because in the second semester we wrote a research paper and used our traits to make our topic enticing to read about. If we had not learned about these specific traits a person’s writing might be too casual for a research paper, or not detailed enough about the topic. All my best pieces of writing include these three traits to make sure reading my work is vivid and fit for the right people.

what have I learned through the year- reflection

I have learned that I love to write but I need some practice! I started off the year by not wanting to write that much and it being a struggle to get my ideas going. Though by this time of the year I’ve grown to be comfortable with write, even though I need some work. Over this year I’ve worked on comma usage mainly. In the beginning of the year, I would just stick commas where ever it sounded like a pause would be in a sentence or when I wanted another section of a sentence. now I use them correctly and incorporate periods, colons, and semi colons to keep my sentences grammatically correct. I have also learned to use my resources. I use resources like Grammarly and vocabulary.com that helps make my writing sound better. I did not use these in the start of the year because I was not aware of the sites. Now I can learn from my previous grammar mistake and incorporate larger words into my writing with Grammarly and vocabulary.com.

writers portrait- reflection

I love to write, but my process is unnecessarily difficult. I get an idea and slowly but surely, I begin to develop it. My creativity comes in waves, or like strikes of lightning. When I get these strikes I must run to my computer or a piece of paper to get my ideas out, or else they will escape. After getting to my chosen media, I am hunched over typing to get out my ideas, even if these words don’t make sense if I get the idea out. I will type so fast by the end I will have fragments of my words, but it doesn’t matter as I have them down. When writing for long periods of time I type with my computer in my lap and mostly flattened. I type fastest and most accurately like this, compared to normal on a desk. Though I do like to watch my fingers when I type on a desk, not because I have to see the keyword but because I like to see the ways my hands move.
